December has been a great month here in the Venice, Florida area for mangrove snapper fishing. We’ve been hitting artificial reefs and rockpiles from 15-25 miles out and limiting out pretty quickly.
The best bite has come on shrimp rigged on jigheads using long, lightweight, fluorocarbon leader. Sometimes the bite can seem very light so anytime you feel the slightest nibble, set the hook.
Fish have been averaging 15-17″ with a few 20″ fish mixed in.
Snapper fishing is great fun for any skill level angler. If you are looking for some fast-paced action, this would be a great trip for you and your friends or family.
